Thunder & Lightning has one primary practical purpose: to measure the distance to a sound source. It can be utilized for various loud events such as thunder and lightning, fireworks, rocket launches, or any visible event from a safe distance. Simply press the Lightning button upon seeing the event and Thunder upon hearing it, letting modern technology take care of the rest.

To increase accuracy in this basic task, you have the option to enter the temperature of your surroundings for a more precise calculation of the speed of sound. You can also select between U.S./Imperial and metric measurements based on your personal unit preferences.

If the intended purpose falls short of utility, this app offers additional functionalities such as a reasonably accurate stopwatch, a speed-of-sound calculator, a Fahrenheit/Celsius converter, or even an odometer if you are traveling at the speed of sound.

Disclaimer: The use of this application while operating supersonic aircraft is not recommended or approved.
